DIG EXPLAINS WHY LAGOS IS NIGERIA’S TOUGHEST STATE TO POLICE

A Deputy Inspector-General of Police has explained why Lagos State remains one of the most challenging environments for effective policing in Nigeria, citing its population density, economic activity, and urban complexity.

He noted that Lagos, being the country’s commercial hub, attracts millions of residents, traders, and visitors daily, making security management more demanding than in other states.

According to him, the state’s rapid urbanisation, traffic congestion, and large informal settlements create additional pressure on law enforcement agencies tasked with maintaining order.

The senior police officer also pointed out that criminal activities in a megacity like Lagos often take more sophisticated forms, requiring advanced intelligence gathering and coordinated responses.

He added that the police force continues to adapt its strategies by improving surveillance, strengthening community policing, and increasing collaboration with other security agencies.

Despite these challenges, he maintained that efforts are ongoing to ensure public safety and reduce crime across the state.

Security experts say Lagos presents a unique policing model in Africa due to its size, economic importance, and population diversity.

The DIG called for stronger public cooperation to support security operations and improve overall safety in the state.
