A motorist named Isiaka Afolabi has been arrested and arraigned at the Badagry Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on charges of alleged manslaughter following a fatal road accident involving a 14-year-old boy.

The incident reportedly took place on April 22 at around 3:30 p.m. in the Badagry area.

Afolabi, who was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with registration number AGL 122 BJ, is accused of reckless driving that resulted in the boy’s immediate death.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, the defendant operated the vehicle dangerously on a public highway, showing a blatant disregard for the safety of other road users.

The charges against Afolabi violate Sections 27 and 19 of the Road Traffic Act, Cap 124, Laws of Lagos State.

Afolabi pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charge when it was read to him in court.

Presiding Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him bail set at N1,000,000, with two sureties of the same amount required.

The court specified that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of gainful employment.

The case has been adjourned to July 9 for further hearing.
