The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, has been honoured with the Friend of the Media Award by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON).

The recognition was announced during the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards Night held on Wednesday in Abuja. Ajayi was among several individuals celebrated for their support and contributions to the media industry.

BON described the DSS boss as a seasoned professional who has demonstrated strong respect for the media since his appointment by Bola Tinubu. The award was received on his behalf by Bayo Awosemo, who was also honoured for his leadership.

Other awardees included Dauda Lawal, Bassey Otu, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and former BON Executive Secretary, Obadiah Tohomdet.

The recognition comes months after Ajayi was also honoured by the International Press Institute for promoting press freedom and fostering improved relations between the DSS and journalists.

Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the organisers, noting the critical role of the media in shaping society and governance. Meanwhile, Minister Idris commended BON for sustaining the awards initiative, which recognises excellence and contributions within Nigeria’s broadcasting industry.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
