DSS DRAGS SOWORE TO COURT OVER POSTS AGAINST TINUBU
The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a five-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja against human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
According to court documents, the DSS is accusing Sowore of using his official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account and Facebook page on August 25 and 26, 2025, to describe President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” and accuse him of dishonesty during an official visit to Brazil.
Interestingly, the charge sheet also listed 𝕏 Inc. and Meta Inc. (the parent company of Facebook) as co-defendants alongside Sowore.
The DSS claims the posts were false, defamatory, and capable of inciting public disorder, citing provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024, as well as sections of the Criminal Code Act.
The charges are broken down as follows:
Counts One & Two: Allegedly posting false information on social media that could cause a breakdown of law and order.
Counts Three & Four: Defamation of President Tinubu’s person and reputation.
Count Five: Publishing false information with intent to cause public fear and disturbance.
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2015, has the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the complainant, with Sowore, 𝕏 Inc., and Meta Inc. listed as defendants.
With this development, all eyes will be on the Federal High Court in Abuja as Sowore, a longtime critic of successive Nigerian governments, once again faces trial over his activism and online statements.
