EBONYI GOVERNOR DEMANDS JUSTICE AFTER 13 INDIGENES KILLED IN ANAMBRA
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 13 Ebonyi indigenes in Anambra State, describing the attack as shocking and completely unacceptable.
According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, the victims—residents of Ogboji community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra—were allegedly gunned down during their monthly town union meeting last Monday.
Governor Nwifuru expressed deep outrage over what he called an unprovoked attack on law-abiding citizens who were simply gathering to discuss community matters.
“This senseless act of violence against innocent citizens is barbaric. It is a direct assault on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life,” he said. “It defies logic that people peacefully holding a meeting could be shot at close range. It is unacceptable, and I condemn it in its entirety.”
In swift response, the governor reached out to his Anambra State counterpart, Charles Soludo, urging a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation to uncover those behind the killings and bring them to justice. He warned that failing to deliver justice could strain the long-standing relationship between Ebonyi and Anambra states.
While waiting for the outcome of investigations, Governor Nwifuru appealed to the people of Ebonyi, especially the affected families and communities, to remain calm and avoid any form of retaliation that might escalate tensions.
“Such barbarism has no place in modern society,” he stressed. “We will use all state resources to ensure the perpetrators are identified and held accountable.”
The governor also reassured Ebonyi citizens that their safety, whether at home or outside the state, remains his top priority.
“There are no sacred cows. I will continue to monitor this case closely to ensure justice is served,” he added.
He concluded by expressing his heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and the entire Ebonyi community in Ogboji, emphasizing hope that Anambra State authorities and security agencies would act decisively—not only to deliver justice but to prevent such tragedies from happening again
