Governor Nwifuru Suspends 85 Ebonyi Government Officials for Missing Key Function

In a bold move to enforce discipline and accountability in governance, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended 85 top government officials for failing to attend a critical government event.

The suspension, which was announced on Monday, takes immediate effect and will last for one month—during which the affected officials will forfeit their salaries.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, those suspended include 25 commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), 24 Special Assistants (SAs), and 22 Permanent Secretaries. The decision, aimed at reinforcing the importance of commitment to public duty, sent a clear message across the state’s political landscape.

Who Was Affected?

Some of the prominent names on the suspension list include:

Commissioners like Prof. Leonard Uguru, Engr. Stanley Mbam, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebe, and Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu.

Senior Special Assistants such as Hon. Bassey Chukwu, Mrs. Rose Ofoke, and Barr. Caleb Onwe.

Special Assistants including Mr. Mbam Emmanuel, Dr. Sabinus Nwibo, and Kizito Nwenyi.

Permanent Secretaries like Dr. Lawrence Ezeogo, Mrs. Rose Ibe, and Barr. Emmanuel Onwe.

The Governor expressed deep disappointment over the lack of commitment shown by the officials, especially at a time when the state needs all hands on deck to deliver democratic dividends to its people.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
