ECONOMIST ADETILEWA ADEBAJO FAULTS TINUBU’S ADMINISTRATION FOR RECKLESS FISCAL SPENDING
Economist Adetilewa Adebajo has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over what he described as reckless fiscal spending, warning that it is fuelling Nigeria’s inflation crisis.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Adebajo said while the administration is taking steps in the right direction, government spending patterns require urgent checks.
“Tinubu is going in the right direction, but the only issue I have with his administration is fiscal spending. It’s a bit reckless, and it needs to be curtailed,” he said.
According to him, excessive fiscal spending is one of the drivers of core inflation in the country. He explained that food inflation could be brought under control if the government tackles insecurity and boosts agricultural productivity.
On energy inflation, Adebajo noted that the removal of fuel subsidy has worsened price hikes, leaving the government with limited control.
The economist urged the administration to focus on fiscal discipline and strategic spending to stabilise the economy and ease the pressure on ordinary Nigerians.
