A 49-year-old man has been arrested in Uhe Community, Igueben Local Government Area, Edo State, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old son and secretly burying the body in the family compound. The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, the incident occurred on December 5, 2025, when the father reportedly assaulted his son with a stick, leading to the boy’s death. Afterward, the suspect dug a grave in the family compound to bury the body.

The boy’s grandmother, who is also the suspect’s mother, provided crucial information that led the police to the grave. The body was exhumed for further investigation, and the stick alleged to have been used in the assault was recovered as evidence.

The Edo Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution. He also warned against all forms of violence and urged residents to report any suspicious activities promptly.

The police have intensified their crime-fighting efforts and launched community safety initiatives to strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and the public.
