EDO POLICE ASSURE RESCUE OF ABDUCTED SEMINARIANS
The Edo State Police Command has promised to rescue three seminarians kidnapped from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivianokpodi-Agenebode, on July 11.
The attack, which claimed the life of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, has triggered a strong security response across the state.
Police spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, said in a statement on Sunday that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, is personally leading the rescue efforts. He explained that specialised units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, have been deployed, while a new Tactical Division has been set up in Ivieukwa community to boost security and intelligence gathering.
Yamu stressed that the police are working closely with other security agencies and using advanced intelligence strategies to ensure the safe release of the seminarians.
Reacting to a video circulating online showing the kidnapped victims, the police appealed for calm. Yamu assured the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, the families of the victims, and the general public that everything is being done to secure the boys’ release without endangering their lives.
“We want to reassure the diocese, parents, and members of the public that the command is working tirelessly to rescue the seminarians unharmed,” he said.
The command also extended condolences to the families affected by the attack and commended them for their patience and cooperation. Yamu further emphasised that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property in Edo State, promising regular updates on the situation.
