EDO POLICE RESCUE KIDNAPPED TRADITIONAL RULER IN HIGH-STAKES OPERATION
The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued the Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a traditional ruler in Edo Central, who was kidnapped on February 3, 2025.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, the rescue operation took place on Friday at about 6 PM in a coordinated effort involving the police, vigilantes, hunters, and local residents.
Yamu revealed that Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin, had personally vowed to ensure the monarch’s safe return and led her team in tireless efforts to track down the abductors.
"The success of this operation was made possible through sustained police efforts, with strong support from the Edo State Government, vigilantes, hunters, and well-meaning residents," Yamu stated.
He also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his logistical support, which played a key role in the operation.
The police reassured the public of their unwavering commitment to fighting crime, vowing to intensify efforts to clamp down on kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state.
The successful rescue has sparked relief among residents, reinforcing calls for enhanced security measures to combat rising cases of abductions in Edo State.
