In a decisive step towards transforming the education sector, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the recruitment of 500 teachers to fill critical vacancies in public schools across the state's three senatorial districts. This initiative fulfills a major campaign promise made by the governor and underscores his administration’s commitment to quality education.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, during his first day in office at the state secretariat in Benin City.

Dr. Iyamu highlighted the governor’s determination to tackle the staffing challenges that have plagued public schools for years. “The era of having only two or three teachers managing an entire school is over,” he said. He also emphasized that the recruitment would be conducted in phases, ensuring that every public school in Edo is adequately staffed with qualified professionals.

This development comes just a week after 360 individuals were recruited into the state’s core civil service, signaling a broader commitment to creating permanent job opportunities under the Okpebholo-led administration.

“We are excited to let Edo people know that Senator Monday Okpebholo is a man who keeps his word,” Dr. Iyamu stated. “This first tranche of teacher recruitment is a bold step to guarantee that the average Edo child receives the best education, while we also focus on driving infrastructure development across the state.”

Dr. Iyamu further urged qualified candidates to apply through the official government website, warning against any unauthorized payments or intermediaries, as the recruitment process is entirely free and merit-based.

With this initiative, the governor aims to usher in a new era for Edo State, prioritizing education as a cornerstone for sustainable development. As Dr. Iyamu put it, "A new dawn is here, and a new Edo is risen."

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
