The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has said that the recent abductions of schoolchildren across parts of the country carry political undertones.

Alausa made the assertion on Wednesday while speaking on “2025 in Retrospect: Charting a Pathway into 2026,” a programme aired on Channels Television.

Addressing the resurgence of school kidnappings by bandits, the minister noted that Nigeria had gone for over 20 months without any recorded abduction in schools, describing the recent incidents as coordinated and deliberate.

“For more than 20 months, there were no abductions in any of our schools. But let us be honest with ourselves—what has happened in the past few weeks has some political undertones,” he said.

According to Alausa, the attacks were aimed at undermining national stability and embarrassing the current administration.

“These were coordinated attacks on the sanctity of our country. Some people want to embarrass this government, but they underestimate President Bola Tinubu. One thing the President strongly opposes is playing politics with issues as sensitive as this,” he added.

In recent weeks, several cases of school abductions have been recorded across the country. Among them was the kidnapping of at least 24 schoolgirls from a Government Secondary School in Kebbi State. The girls were later reported to have regained their freedom

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
