Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested seven young men in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over alleged involvement in internet fraud.

The suspects were picked up in the early hours of Monday, August 25, 2025, during a sting operation carried out simultaneously at Uyeh Heaven Estate and Ayam Estate, along Ring Road 3 in Uyo.

According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the operation followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to cybercrime activities. Items recovered from them included five laptops, 10 mobile phones, and one iPad, which the agency believes were used to perpetrate the alleged crimes.

“The arrested individuals are currently in custody and will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC confirmed.

The anti-graft agency has repeatedly warned youths to steer clear of cybercrime, stressing that such illegal ventures ruin reputations, destroy futures, and undermine Nigeria’s global image.

This latest crackdown highlights the Commission’s renewed efforts to clamp down on internet fraudsters across the country, especially in states where cases have been on the rise.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
