EID-EL-KABIR: KADUNA RESIDENTS STRUGGLE AS RAMS SELL FOR UP TO ₦1M

Residents of Kaduna are expressing frustration over the soaring prices of rams ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, with some animals reportedly selling for as high as ₦1 million.

Traders and buyers at major livestock markets across the state said the sharp increase in prices has made it difficult for many families to purchase rams for the annual Muslim festival.

According to sellers, rising transportation costs, insecurity affecting livestock supply routes, and the general increase in the cost of living have contributed significantly to the price surge.

Many residents described the situation as financially overwhelming, noting that prices this year are far higher than previous festive periods.

Some buyers said they may be forced to consider smaller animals or alternative arrangements due to economic pressure and declining purchasing power.

Livestock dealers, however, argued that market conditions and increased operational expenses have affected the cost of sourcing and transporting animals from northern supply regions.

The development reflects broader inflationary pressures currently affecting food, transportation, and household spending across Nigeria ahead of the festive season.
