EIGHT ARRESTED IN LAGOS FOR URINATING IN PUBLIC AND CAUSING DISTURBANCE
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has arrested and arraigned eight individuals for offences related to public urination and causing public disturbance in the Yaba area of Lagos.
The Corps Marshal of the agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd), disclosed this during a media briefing at the agency's headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi.
“As the leading enforcement agency in Lagos, with officers stationed across 21 divisions, we cannot tolerate acts of public indecency like open urination and defecation. Our daily patrols across the state led to the arrest and prosecution of these eight individuals. We remain committed and resolute,” Cole stated.
He revealed that the suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Oshikoya at the Special Offences (Mobile) Court in Oshodi, where they were charged under Section 168(1)(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, for breaching public peace, and Section 5(1) of the Lagos State Public Health Law, 2015, which prohibits open urination.
The court sentenced the offenders to one month in prison. Major Cole stressed that the judgment should serve as a clear warning to others against engaging in acts of public indecency.
