EKITI REP FAULTS APC PRIMARY PROCESS, SEEKS JUSTICE, FAIRNESS
A member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II, Biodun Omoleye, has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress primary election conducted for the constituency, alleging widespread irregularities and voter intimidation during the exercise.
Omoleye, in a statement issued on Monday in Ado Ekiti through his Media Director, Gloria Femi-Ige, described the primary election as flawed and compromised, claiming that the process failed to reflect the true wishes of party members in the constituency.
The lawmaker alleged that incidents of voter suppression, harassment, and manipulation of electoral materials marred the exercise held on Saturday.
According to him, several wards witnessed intimidation of his supporters, while genuine party members were allegedly denied the opportunity to vote.
“The process fell short of democratic standards expected within the party. Several wards witnessed harassment and intimidation of my supporters. Genuine party members were denied the opportunity to vote while electoral materials and figures were manipulated in favour of a predetermined outcome,” he said.
Omoleye further alleged that many of his supporters who turned out to participate in the exercise were threatened and forcibly dispersed from polling areas.
“This is not the democracy we advocate for. The will of the people was clearly subverted, and what we witnessed on Saturday was a coordinated effort to silence the voice of genuine party faithful,” he stated.
The federal lawmaker called on the leadership of the APC at all levels to intervene and investigate the conduct of the primary election, warning that failure to address the alleged irregularities could undermine the credibility of the party’s internal democratic process.
He vowed to challenge the outcome through lawful and constitutional means in a bid to reclaim what he described as a “stolen mandate.”
“Our struggle is not just about an election; it is about protecting democracy, ensuring fairness, and upholding the voice of the people. We will not relent until justice is served,” Omoleye added.
He also appealed to his supporters across Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II to remain peaceful and law-abiding while efforts to seek redress continue.
The APC Primary Election Committee Chairman in Ekiti State, Banjo Adedoyin, had on Sunday announced the results of the exercise in Ado Ekiti.
According to the results announced, a commissioner in the state, Oladapo Karounwi, secured 6,573 votes to emerge the winner, while Omoleye polled 1,412 votes. Victor Kolade scored 2,096 votes, Samuel Olusola got 705 votes, and Olatunde Oyetola received 1,202 votes.
