Electricity customers in parts of Lagos should brace for daily power outages as the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a 25-day blackout starting July 28 to August 21, 2025.

In a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the DisCo explained that the power interruptions will occur daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., as a result of critical maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The maintenance is focused on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV line, which supplies electricity to several areas covered by Eko DisCo.

“During this period, customers should expect irregular electricity supply and load shedding across our network,” the statement read.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been advised to make alternative arrangements, especially for essential services, to cope with the planned outages.

While the blackout is temporary, many Lagosians are already expressing concerns about its impact, especially with the current cost of fuel and reliance on electricity for daily activities.

EKEDC says the work is necessary to improve long-term power stability and apologised for the inconvenience.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
