EL-RUFAI: I’M NOT RUNNING FOR SENATE OR PRESIDENCY IN 2027

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has once again shut down speculations that he plans to run for Senate or any other elective position in 2027.

El-Rufai made this known on Wednesday while addressing a group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.

The former governor explained that his return to politics is not to seek office but to support the emergence of credible leaders at both the state and national levels.

“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. Everyone’s conscience tells them the truth. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not contesting for any position. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai said.

He revealed that his original plan after leaving office was to take a break from partisan politics. However, he noted that recent events in Nigeria compelled him to step back into the political space.

“When I finished my tenure as governor of Kaduna, my intention was to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he added.

El-Rufai, who served two terms as governor and was once the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stressed that his priority is not personal ambition but building a system that delivers good governance.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
