EL-RUFAI RULES OUT 2027 ELECTION BID, SAYS HE ONLY WANTS TO SUPPORT CREDIBLE LEADERS
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has made it clear that he will not be contesting for any political position in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai, who received a group of youths that recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna on Wednesday, said his renewed involvement in politics is not about personal ambition but about mentoring and supporting credible leaders.
The outspoken politician took a swipe at the current administration, describing it as one that “does nothing but lie every day.”
“I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” El-Rufai declared.
According to him, his original plan after leaving office was to step away from partisan politics. However, he explained that recent national realities have compelled him to return and play a role in shaping the country’s future.
He further emphasized that his focus now is on mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded citizens to actively participate in governance.
El-Rufai also urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to register to vote, stressing that meaningful political change can only happen through active participation in elections.
