EL-RUFAI’S SON, BELLO EL-RUFAI, DUMPS APC FOR ADC AS DEFECTIONS SHAKE HOUSE OF REPS
A major political shift has emerged in the Nigerian House of Representatives as Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who is the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, confirmed his defection in a statement released on Thursday, marking one of the most notable political moves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His departure from the APC was not an isolated case, as another federal lawmaker from Kaduna State, representing Kudan/Makarfi Federal Constituency, also resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ADC at the same time.
The wave of defections did not stop there. Suleiman Richifa, who represents Soba Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, also left the PDP for the ADC, further strengthening the opposition party’s presence in the region.
In a related development, Abdulhakeem Ado from Kano State resigned from the ADC and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighting a broader pattern of political movement across party lines.
These changes come at a time when political alliances are being quietly reshaped across the country, with lawmakers and politicians repositioning themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Observers say the growing appeal of the ADC and NDC reflects ongoing coalition talks and dissatisfaction within major political parties.
As 2027 approaches, these defections suggest that party loyalty is becoming increasingly fluid, with many politicians prioritising strategic alignment over long-standing affiliations.
For now, the political map in the National Assembly continues to shift—one defection at a time.
