ELON MUSK JOKES ABOUT GOP ELECTION DEFEAT AFTER SPENDING RECORD SUMS ON PARTY
Elon Musk responded with humour on Wednesday after Republicans lost control of Congress, despite his spending hundreds of millions of dollars to support the party.
“Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time,” he wrote on X, adding a shrug emoji.
Democrats captured both the Senate and House of Representatives in Tuesday’s midterm elections, delivering a major setback to President Donald Trump’s agenda.
Musk contributed nearly half a billion dollars to Republican political efforts, according to campaign-finance figures cited in the report.
Most of the money went to his America PAC and the Senate Leadership Fund, which supports Republican Senate candidates.
The Senate Leadership Fund used $158 million donated by Musk in September to support Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign in Texas.
However, Paxton lost to Democrat James Talarico, who became the first Democrat to win statewide office in Texas since 1994.
Speaking at his victory rally in Austin, Talarico highlighted the powerful figures who had backed his opponent.
“In this race, we went up against our own Goliaths,” he said, referring to Musk, Trump and the political establishment.
The results underscored the limits of major campaign donations in securing electoral victories, with Musk’s financial backing unable to prevent significant Republican losses.
