ENUGU TRAINS OVER 15,000 WORKERS IN DIGITAL SKILLS DRIVE

The Enugu State Government has trained more than 15,000 civil and public servants in digital literacy and e-governance as part of efforts to modernise the state’s public service and improve efficiency.

The State Head of Service, Dr Godwin Anigbo, disclosed this in Enugu, explaining that the target was achieved following the completion of the fifth batch of the Enugu State Civil Servants Digital Literacy Programme. 

Anigbo said the initiative was designed to equip government employees with the digital knowledge and skills required to improve productivity and deliver public services more effectively.

He noted that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah had provided support for the programme as part of its broader vision of building an innovation-driven public service capable of supporting the state’s economic growth.

The Head of Service said several other capacity-building programmes had also been organised for workers and senior government officials during the period under review.

Among them was a training programme for permanent secretaries on Strategic Policy Alignment and Disruptive Innovation, held from February 10 to 13, 2026.

Directors and deputy directors also participated in a three-day workshop focused on Fiscal Stewardship, Strategic Oversight and Institutional Integrity in the Era of Disruptive Innovation between March 23 and 25, 2026.

The state also organised specialised training for permanent secretaries and directors on Artificial Intelligence, in collaboration with UNESCO, between May 26 and 28, 2026.

Administrative officers were similarly trained on improving service delivery and productivity in the digital age, while other officers participated in programmes designed to strengthen institutional efficiency and accountability.

Anigbo further disclosed that the government had organised training for chief drivers, mechanics and plant operators who were transitioning to the position of Works Superintendent.

The Head of Service also highlighted the participation of Enugu officials in the International Civil Service Conference in Abuja as part of efforts to expose workers to modern approaches to public administration.

Other activities carried out by the state included the 2025 Senior Management Promotion exercise, Civil Service Week, documentation of newly appointed political appointees and newly employed officers.

The government also continued monitoring workers’ attendance across ministries, departments and agencies, general hospitals and local government areas.

According to the Head of Service, the various initiatives are aimed at creating a more efficient, technologically driven and responsive civil service.

The digital literacy programme is expected to help government employees adapt to the increasing use of technology in public administration and reduce delays associated with traditional methods of delivering government services.

The state government is also seeking to strengthen the capacity of its workforce as technology, artificial intelligence and digital platforms increasingly become central to modern governance.

The training of more than 15,000 workers therefore represents a significant component of Enugu’s efforts to transform its public service and prepare government employees for a more digitally driven working environment.
