EPL: DANNY SIMPSON SAYS HE FEELS SORRY FOR MAN UNITED STRIKER SESKO AFTER DERBY DEFEAT
Former Leicester City defender, Danny Simpson, has admitted he felt sorry for Manchester United’s new striker Benjamin Sesko following the Red Devils’ heavy 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
United were swept aside at the Etihad, with Phil Foden opening the scoring before Erling Haaland struck twice to seal a dominant win for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Speaking after the game, Simpson noted that Sesko looked completely isolated upfront due to United’s inability to create chances.
“I felt sorry for [Benjamin] Sesko today. He’s trying but there’s nothing he can do,” Simpson told Stadium Astro.
Despite spending big on signings over the summer, Ruben Amorim’s side have started the season poorly. United have managed just one win in four Premier League games, alongside two defeats and a draw, leaving them 14th on the table with only 4 points.
Simpson also criticised Amorim’s decision not to start young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, insisting the teenager could have brought more life to the team.
“Crazy [Mainoo didn’t start]. When he comes on there’s a bit of energy,” Simpson added.
With pressure mounting on Amorim, United must regroup quickly as they prepare to host high-flying Chelsea at Old Trafford next Saturday.
