EPL: LIVERPOOL’S ISAK UNDERGOES SURGERY FOR ANKLE FRACTURE, SET FOR MONTHS ON SIDELINES
Liverpool has confirmed that forward Alexander Isak has undergone surgery following a fracture to his left leg, ruling him out for several months.
According to BBC Sport on Tuesday, the club said the Sweden international “successfully underwent surgery” on an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula. While Liverpool did not provide a specific recovery timeline, the 26-year-old is expected to be sidelined for at least a few months.
Isak sustained the injury during Saturday’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur. He had come off the bench to score for Arne Slot’s side but was injured moments after striking the shot for his goal following a challenge from defender Micky van de Ven. The striker was unable to continue and was helped off the pitch by Liverpool’s medical staff, clearly in discomfort.
The injury represents a major setback for both the player and the club. Isak joined Liverpool in the summer in a Premier League record transfer worth £125 million and has scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions since he arrived from Newcastle in September.
It also continues a difficult run for the striker, who endured an unsettled summer. He was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to what the club described as a minor thigh injury amid speculation about his future. Isak later trained alone at his former club, Real Sociedad, before completing his move to Liverpool on deadline day.
Liverpool will now have to cope without one of their key attacking options as they navigate a crucial stretch of the season.
