EPL: WAYNE ROONEY ADMITS ERLING HAALAND ‘FRUSTRATES’ HIM DESPITE GOAL SCORING PROWESS
Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has admitted that Manchester City’s prolific striker, Erling Haaland, frustrates him despite his incredible goal-scoring record.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Rooney praised Haaland’s movement inside the penalty box but insisted the Norwegian should be more dominant and imposing on the pitch.
“I like watching Haaland, but he also frustrates me a bit,” Rooney said.
“If you watch his movement in the 6-yard-box, it’s incredible, but you want a bit more from him. I want him to be more commanding. Look at the size of him—he’s like a beast. I want him to go and bully centre-backs.”
The former England captain, regarded as one of the greatest Premier League strikers, previously advised Haaland earlier in the year to be more selfish in his approach. Rooney suggested the 24-year-old should step up for penalty duties, following the examples of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, to further establish himself as a complete forward.
Haaland, who continues to break scoring records for Pep Guardiola’s side, remains one of the most feared strikers in world football. However, Rooney believes the Norwegian still has another level to reach if he maximises his physical attributes.
