ERIK TEN HAG NAMED NEW HEAD COACH OF BAYER LEVERKUSEN
Leverkusen, Germany – May 26, 2025
Bayer 04 Leverkusen has officially announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the club’s new head coach. The Dutch tactician succeeds Xabi Alonso, who has departed to assume managerial duties at Real Madrid following a highly successful tenure in Germany.
Under Alonso’s leadership, Leverkusen enjoyed a historic 2023–2024 season, securing both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal. His achievements culminated in his appointment on Sunday as the new head coach of Real Madrid, where he will replace Carlo Ancelotti.
Ten Hag, 55, returns to management after parting ways with Manchester United in October 2024. During his two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford, he guided the club to triumphs in both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup, though his overall tenure was marked by mixed results.
In a statement, Bayer Leverkusen expressed confidence in Ten Hag’s strategic vision and managerial experience, emphasizing their ambition to build upon the club’s recent domestic and European successes.
Further information regarding Ten Hag’s contract and his plans for the upcoming season will be disclosed in due course.
