EX-AGF MALAMI, SON PLEAD NOT GUILTY TO AMENDED FIREARMS CHARGE
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, have pleaded not guilty to a five-count amended charge bordering on alleged illegal possession of firearms.
The plea was taken on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja after the amended charge was filed by the Federal Government through the Department of State Services (DSS).
The defendants were previously arraigned on earlier charges in February 2026, including allegations of terrorism financing, aiding terrorism, and unlawful possession of firearms. However, those charges were substituted with an amended version during Wednesday’s proceedings.
According to the amended charge, both defendants are accused of illegally possessing a Sturm Magnum firearm, live ammunition, and expended cartridges, as well as allegedly conspiring to prepare acts of terrorism.
After the charges were read in court, both Malami and his son entered a not-guilty plea to all counts.
The court subsequently allowed them to continue on their existing bail and fixed May 26 and June 16, 2026, for trial proceedings.
The case continues as part of ongoing legal proceedings involving allegations under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act and the Firearms Act.
