Police operatives in Lagos have arrested an ex-convict, identified as Onamade Kayode, for alleged involvement in cultism and armed robbery. A locally made gun was also recovered from him.

According to the Lagos State Police Command, the incident happened on August 18, 2025, after residents of Sabon Kasuwa, Abule Eko, raised an alarm about a man openly brandishing a firearm and threatening people in the area.

Responding swiftly, officers from the Ijede Division tracked Kayode to an uncompleted building, where he was arrested.

Investigations revealed that Kayode, who had previously served jail time for cult-related offences before his release in 2022, is still an active member of a cult group.

During interrogation, he confessed to owning a firearm and later led officers to where the weapon was hidden inside a toilet pipe at the same building.

The suspect is now assisting police with information to help apprehend other cult members and recover more weapons. He will be charged in court once the investigations are complete.

Commending the operation, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the Ijede Division for their quick response and professionalism, which ensured the suspect’s arrest and recovery of the firearm.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
