A former Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area in Owan West, Frank Ilaboya, has officially entered the race for the Edo State House of Assembly after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms.

Ilaboya picked up the forms in Benin City on Friday, signaling his intention to contest the seat representing Owan West constituency.

The former local government boss, who also previously served as Chairman of the Edo Football Association and ex-chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), expressed confidence in his chances ahead of the party primaries.

He said the APC had created what he described as a fair and competitive environment for all aspirants, adding that he was optimistic about emerging victorious.

Ilaboya also emphasized grassroots support as a key advantage in his campaign, saying his political strength lies in his connection with local communities.

He commended the party’s leadership in Edo State, noting that the open sale of nomination forms to multiple aspirants reflects internal democracy within the APC.

He further expressed confidence in the ability of the state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to ensure fairness in the process, describing him as committed to democratic principles.

Ilaboya said he is prepared for a competitive primary election and remains hopeful of securing the party’s ticket.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
