Nigerian exporters are counting significant losses as over 1,000 containers remain trapped at the ports due to ongoing clearance delays and logistical bottlenecks.

The situation has led to demurrage charges, spoiled perishable goods, and missed international delivery deadlines, with many businesses reporting millions of naira in losses. Exporters have called on the Nigerian Ports Authority and relevant agencies to expedite the release of the containers.

A leading exporter, Mr. Chukwudi Eze, described the delay as crippling. “We are losing millions daily. This is unsustainable for our businesses,” he said.

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council has promised to intervene and engage with port authorities to resolve the issue.

The development highlights persistent challenges in Nigeria’s port operations and the urgent need for improved efficiency to support non-oil export growth.
