The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the official launch of a cashless and contactless payment system across its major airports, beginning with Lagos and Abuja.

In a statement on Thursday, FAAN disclosed that the initiative, tagged “Operation Go Cashless”, was developed in collaboration with Paystack and will take effect from September 29, 2025.

The new system will eliminate cash transactions at FAAN’s revenue points, including airport access gates, car parks, VIP lounges, and protocol services. Instead, travelers and airport users will now be able to make payments through secure digital platforms, ensuring faster and more transparent services.

“Effective September 29, 2025, all payments at FAAN’s revenue points will go cashless, meaning we will be phasing out the collection of cash at these points. Travelers and airport users will now enjoy fast and seamless services by using a secure contactless payment option,” the statement read.

According to FAAN, the move is aimed at enhancing efficiency, improving revenue assurance, and aligning Nigeria’s airports with global digital standards.

The agency added that the cashless payment system will be extended in phases to other airports across the country.

This reform is expected to modernize airport operations, reduce cash handling risks, and provide travelers with a more convenient customer experience.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
