“FALSE AND MISLEADING” — SEYI TINUBU BREAKS SILENCE ON VIRAL ONLINE SHOWDOWN
The son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, has dismissed allegations connecting him to an ongoing social media dispute involving activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy.
The controversy followed Mitchy’s recent renovation of a public school within six days, reportedly supported financially by Seyi Tinubu. She later became entangled in an online exchange with VeryDarkMan, who accused her of failing to account for public donations received since 2025.
Amid the heated exchanges, VeryDarkMan alleged that Seyi Tinubu sponsored Mitchy’s charitable efforts, further intensifying the online backlash. In a video shared on Instagram, the activist urged the public to hold both Mitchy and Seyi Tinubu responsible should any harm befall him.
Responding through a series of Instagram posts, Seyi Tinubu described the claims as false and misleading. He clarified that his only interaction with Mitchy occurred in a public setting where he offered financial support for her non-governmental organisation as part of his broader youth empowerment initiatives.
“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately dragged into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan and King Mitchy,” he stated. “Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false.”
He explained that he met Mitchy once alongside other individuals and provided assistance toward her NGO’s activities. According to him, a follow-up meeting had been planned to assess the impact of the donation but could not take place due to health reasons.
“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,” he said.
Seyi Tinubu expressed concern that a dispute he neither initiated nor participated in was being used to damage his reputation. He also alleged that the activist appeared to be searching for an opportunity to target him and seized the situation to do so.
“If my name attracts attention, then let us at least deal with facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not make them true,” he added.
He further condemned what he described as online harassment and warned that escalating attacks could have serious mental health implications.
“I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic. No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s wellbeing or safety,” he wrote.
Reaffirming his commitment to philanthropy, he noted that for over a decade he has supported initiatives in education, enterprise, healthcare, and youth empowerment through his foundation and personal donations.
“Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicised or weaponised. Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation,” he said.
He rejected the allegations and called for restraint, de-escalation, and a return to truth and responsibility, concluding that his focus remains on serving Nigerians, particularly young people, with integrity and transparency.
