FALZ OPENS UP ABOUT ONLINE TROLLS: “I OFTEN HAVE TO RESTRAIN MYSELF”
Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has shared his experience dealing with online trolls, revealing the self-control it takes to resist responding to negative and offensive comments directed at him.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Dear Ife podcast, Falz discussed various aspects of his life including his music, activism, love life, and the pressures of fame. He acknowledged the emotional toll of constant online criticism and admitted that although he often feels compelled to respond, he chooses silence over confrontation.
“It’s frustrating, and I won’t lie,” he confessed. “There are times I see comments and think, ‘Are you stupid? Or just daft?’ But I can’t always respond. I constantly have to pull myself back.” Falz explained how he mentally processes such negativity and why he ultimately refrains from engaging.
“Sometimes I just pause and remind myself, ‘This person doesn’t deserve my attention.’ There have been moments I was close to reacting, but I told myself not to,” he said. He attributed his self-discipline to personal growth, emotional maturity, and a supportive team.
“I’m grateful for my management team; they help keep me grounded. I always remind myself it’s not worth it. I strongly believe that the truth will eventually prevail.”
However, Falz drew a clear line when it comes to defamation. While he avoids public spats, he emphasized his willingness to take legal action to defend his reputation.
“If something untrue is said about me and it affects my name, I’ll definitely pursue it legally. I’m not going to engage in petty exchanges—are they crazy?”
