Falz Explains the Powerful Message Behind His New Album ‘The Feast’

Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and actor Falz has shed light on the driving force behind his latest body of work, The Feast, emphasizing that the project is rooted in the theme of community and collective progress.

In a recent interview on Naija FM, the multifaceted artist shared that The Feast explores the urgent need for Africans to move away from the deeply entrenched “every man for himself” mindset—a mentality he believes is stifling the continent’s development.

“The message I’m pushing across is ‘community,’” Falz said. “I feel like we need a sense of community because the mentality that we have in this country and Africa is the ‘every man for himself’ one, and it’s not good.”

Falz went on to criticize both African leaders and everyday citizens for prioritizing self-interest over the common good. According to him, this individualistic approach—where everyone looks out for only themselves and their immediate circles—has become a major barrier to sustainable progress in society.

“We constantly complain about how the government isn’t good. Why?” he asked rhetorically. “Because we need to think about the collective. Every person. We need to be there for each other.”

While The Feast doesn’t carry the overt political tone of some of his earlier works like Moral Instruction, Falz explained that the album still carries a deep, reflective message. He intentionally chose a more subtle and layered approach, encouraging listeners to sit with the music and unpack its meaning over time.

“It’s not as intense and direct as some of my other ones,” he said. “With this one, you need to sit and listen.”

Falz has long been recognized for his socially conscious music and advocacy for justice, so The Feast continues in that tradition—albeit with a softer but equally impactful delivery. By highlighting the importance of unity, empathy, and collective action, Falz hopes the album will inspire fans to rethink how they engage with their communities and the world around them.

The Feast is now available on all major streaming platforms.
