FANI-KAYODE ARRIVES IN SOUTH AFRICA TO BEGIN DIPLOMATIC ENGAGEMENTS
Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho, Femi Fani-Kayode, has arrived in Johannesburg to begin his diplomatic engagements.
The former minister landed at O. R. Tambo International Airport on Sunday, where officials of the Nigerian High Commission and members of the Nigerian community welcomed him.
He had departed Nigeria earlier that day with his entourage.
Fani-Kayode was also scheduled to meet Nigerians living in South Africa on Sunday evening in Sandton. The planned meeting formed part of his initial engagements with the community.
His arrival follows the receipt of his letter of credence in July. He was among 65 ambassadorial nominees whose appointments were confirmed by the Senate and approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Fani-Kayode was initially assigned to Germany before being reassigned to South Africa. The change followed a formal request to then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, in which he expressed concerns about the original posting.
His engagements will involve Nigeria’s diplomatic missions and citizens across South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho.
