The 2025 edition of the renowned Ojude Oba Festival kicked off in spectacular fashion in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, drawing a vibrant crowd of thousands to celebrate the rich traditions, royal heritage, and cultural pride of the Ijebu people.

Rooted in the 19th century, Ojude Oba is a cherished cultural festival where the Ijebu community comes together annually to pay tribute to their king, the Awujale of Ijebuland. The event originated as an expression of gratitude by the Muslim community for the monarch’s embrace of religious freedom.

Over the years, the festival has grown into a dazzling showcase of Yoruba culture. Age-grade groups known as regberegbe take to the streets in colorful traditional attire, performing lively dances, engaging in horse-riding displays, and presenting musical and artistic performances that reflect the vibrancy of their heritage. It's considered one of Nigeria’s most visually captivating cultural celebrations.

A major highlight of this year’s festivities is the return of Farooq Oreagba, who gained national fame during the 2024 edition for his distinguished appearance and commanding presence on horseback. Nicknamed “Mr Steeze” for his stylish flair and regal poise—riding with a cigar in hand—Farooq quickly became an internet sensation.

He made an unforgettable comeback at the 2025 festival, dressed in an elegant brown aso-oke agbada and sokoto ensemble crafted by Rhobes Official. He completed the look with a bold silver Cuban link chain, statement rings, and a striking gold staff adorned with a lion’s head—further solidifying his reputation as “The King of Steeze.”
