FCCPC WARNS BAKERS AGAINST COMPROMISING FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has cautioned bakers against compromising food safety standards in an effort to reduce production costs.
The commission said bakeries must ensure that the bread and other food products they manufacture meet required safety and quality standards before they reach consumers.
The warning comes amid rising production costs affecting the baking industry, including higher prices of flour, energy, transportation, and other inputs.
The FCCPC stressed that economic pressures should not lead businesses to cut corners in areas that could put consumers at risk.
It urged bakers to comply with applicable regulations covering food handling, production processes, hygiene, packaging, and product quality.
The commission also called on consumers to remain vigilant and report products or practices that appear unsafe or fail to meet required standards.
Industry stakeholders said rising operating costs have placed significant pressure on bakeries, but businesses must balance cost management with their responsibility to protect consumers.
They called for stronger collaboration between regulators and industry operators to address challenges affecting the sector while maintaining food safety.
The FCCPC reaffirmed that it would continue to monitor consumer goods and take appropriate action where businesses violate established standards.
The commission said protecting consumers remains a priority and urged bakers to adopt efficient production methods without compromising the safety and quality of food products.
