The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has scored a major victory against kidnappers terrorizing Abuja and its surrounding areas, arresting two notorious kingpins and recovering cash and weapons from their hideout.

According to the FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the suspects were identified as Masud Abdullahi, the gang leader from Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and Muhammad Tahir from Jos, Plateau State.

Their arrest followed a daring counter-kidnapping operation launched on August 16, 2025, after the gang stormed an estate in Karu, Abuja, where they abducted a resident, Barrister Henry Chichi.

The police Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately swung into action, mounting pressure on the criminals. By August 17, the victim was rescued safely. The breakthrough came when the kidnappers’ vehicle lost control along the Guraku axis of the Nasarawa–FCT highway, leading to the capture of Abdullahi and Tahir.

Further investigation led operatives to the gang’s hideout in Karshi Forest, Nasarawa State, where another member, Kabiru Jibril, was arrested.

From the hideout, police recovered a staggering N7.4 million in cash, alongside an arsenal of dangerous weapons, including:

Three AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines

One G3 rifle with a magazine

Sixteen rounds of live ammunition

A mobile phone used for operations

The FCT Police Command has assured residents of its continued commitment to making Abuja and its environs safe, urging communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
