FCTA Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Education as MTN Donates 600 Tablets to Schools

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated its dedication to advancing digital learning in public schools across the territory, as telecom giant MTN Nigeria donated 600 tablet computers to 12 secondary schools in Abuja.

The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, made the pledge during the official handover ceremony held on Friday. Represented by her Special Assistant on Technical Matters, Michael Bawa, the minister praised MTN’s continued partnership and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Describing the donation as a “timely and impactful investment” in the future of Nigerian students, Mahmoud said the gesture came at a crucial time when the FCTA is intensifying efforts to revamp the education sector and equip students with the digital tools needed to succeed in a technology-driven world.

“This initiative is more than just the distribution of devices. It is a direct investment in the potential of our children, in digital inclusion, and in national development,” she said. “MTN’s support aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ which prioritizes quality education and digital empowerment.”

Mahmoud reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment in all public schools, noting that education remains a vital tool for shaping the nation’s future.

Also speaking at the event, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo—represented by the Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Kolawole Olabashola—commended MTN’s role in bridging the digital divide, noting that the donation would enable FCT schools to compete globally.

“This initiative will undoubtedly position our schools to match their counterparts across the world,” he said.

Chairman of the MTN Board, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, said the donation is part of the company’s nationwide drive to support digital learning. He emphasized MTN’s belief that every child, regardless of location, deserves access to modern digital tools and opportunities.

“This gesture reflects our collective commitment to innovation, education, and providing opportunities for every Nigerian child,” Ndukwe said, adding that MTN has already procured 4,600 digital learning tablets for public secondary schools across the country.

The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between MTN Nigeria and government stakeholders aimed at transforming education through technology.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
