FELA ANIKULAPO-KUTI MAKES HISTORY WITH ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
Legendary Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the first African artist to receive the honour.
Fela will be recognised in the “Early Influence” category alongside notable figures such as Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons.
The announcement was made during a live broadcast of American Idol in the United States.
Also honoured is Nigerian-born British singer Sade Adu, who will be inducted in the “Performer” category alongside global stars like Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
This recognition adds to Fela’s legacy, coming shortly after he became the first African artist to receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this year.
