The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with APM Terminals as part of efforts to advance the development of the proposed Badagry Deep Seaport in Lagos State. The agreement is expected to strengthen collaboration between the government and the global port operator as preparations continue for the major maritime infrastructure project.

The proposed seaport is expected to significantly expand Nigeria’s port capacity and improve the country’s ability to handle large vessels and growing cargo volumes. Its location in Badagry is also expected to support greater economic activity in the area while creating opportunities for businesses involved in shipping, logistics, manufacturing and other maritime-related services.

The partnership with APM Terminals is expected to bring international expertise and investment into the project. The company has extensive experience in port development and terminal operations globally, making its involvement significant to efforts to establish a modern deep-sea port capable of competing with major maritime facilities in the region.

The Federal Government has continued to identify the development of deep-sea ports as an important part of its strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime sector and reduce pressure on existing facilities. The Badagry project is expected to improve cargo handling, support trade and potentially create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities during its construction and eventual operation.

The signing of the MoU marks another step towards the realisation of the Badagry Deep Seaport, although further technical, financial and development processes will still be required before the facility becomes operational. The government is expected to continue working with APM Terminals and other stakeholders to move the project forward and unlock its potential for Nigeria’s economy and maritime industry.
