FG BACKS ARTISANS WITH N3.6BN SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FUND

The Federal Government has released N3.6 billion to support skills development and capacity building for artisans and craftsmen across Nigeria.

The fund, aimed at enhancing technical competencies and improving the quality of local craftsmanship, will be channelled through various vocational training centres and artisan associations. The initiative is part of broader efforts to boost the informal sector, create employment opportunities, and reduce youth unemployment.

Officials noted that the intervention will focus on modernising traditional skills, introducing new technologies, and promoting best practices in areas such as welding, tailoring, plumbing, and electrical works. Beneficiaries will also receive entrepreneurship training to help them grow their businesses.

Stakeholders welcomed the development, describing it as a timely boost for the artisan community, which plays a vital role in Nigeria’s economic activities. They called for transparent distribution and effective monitoring to ensure maximum impact.

The government expressed confidence that the skills development fund would contribute to industrial growth, support small businesses, and enhance the overall productivity of the informal sector.
