FG BARS OFFICERS WITHOUT APPRAISAL RECORDS FROM PROMOTION
The Federal Government has directed that public officers without up-to-date performance appraisal records will no longer be eligible for promotion within the federal civil service.
The directive is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability, improve performance management, and ensure that career advancement is based on merit and documented performance evaluations.
According to government officials, Annual Performance Evaluation Reports (APER) will now serve as a mandatory requirement for promotion exercises across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Officials noted that performance appraisals provide an objective basis for assessing employees’ productivity, competence, and readiness for higher responsibilities.
The government also emphasized that proper documentation will help improve workforce planning, talent development, and institutional efficiency.
Public administration experts have welcomed the move, describing regular performance assessments as an important tool for enhancing service delivery and rewarding excellence.
Civil servants have been advised to ensure their appraisal records are complete and submitted in accordance with established guidelines before future promotion exercises.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to building a merit-driven civil service capable of delivering effective services to Nigerians.
