FG MOVES TO EXPAND NETWORK REACH WITH 200 TELECOM SITES

The Federal Government is targeting the deployment of 200 additional telecommunications sites across Nigeria before the end of the year as part of efforts to improve mobile connectivity and reduce areas with poor network coverage. The planned expansion is expected to support communities that continue to experience weak or unreliable telecommunications services, particularly in underserved locations.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and improve access to reliable communication services. The additional sites are expected to provide better network coverage and help address some of the challenges faced by mobile phone users, including dropped calls, slow data services and limited connectivity in areas where existing infrastructure is insufficient.

The planned rollout also comes as demand for telecommunications and digital services continues to grow across the country. Increased dependence on mobile internet for banking, education, business, government services and communication has placed greater pressure on network operators to expand their infrastructure and improve service quality.

Government efforts to increase telecom coverage are also expected to support economic activities in communities where poor connectivity has limited access to digital opportunities. Better network availability could improve access to online businesses and financial services while helping individuals, businesses and public institutions make greater use of digital platforms.

With the December deadline approaching, the government is expected to work with relevant agencies and telecommunications stakeholders to ensure the targeted sites are deployed within the planned timeframe. The expansion is aimed at strengthening Nigeria's telecommunications infrastructure and bringing more communities into reliable mobile and digital connectivity.
