FG REVIVES DIGITAL POSTCODE PROJECT AFTER TWO DECADES DELAY

The Federal Government has revived the long-delayed national digital postcode project, aiming to assign unique digital addresses to every location in Nigeria to improve service delivery, planning, and security.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, announced the resumption of the initiative, noting that technological advancements now make it feasible to implement a robust and scalable system. “This project will transform how we locate addresses, deliver services, and plan development. After two decades, we are finally ready to move forward,” he said.

The digital postcode system is expected to support census exercises, election logistics, emergency response, and e-commerce growth. A phased rollout will begin in major cities before nationwide coverage.

The government has called for public cooperation and stakeholder engagement to ensure the success of the project.

The revival aligns with Nigeria’s broader digital economy agenda and efforts to modernise governance.
