FG REWARDS D’TIGRESS PLAYERS WITH N100,000 EACH AFTER AFROBASKET TRIUMPH
The Federal Government has rewarded members of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with N100,000 each following their successful defence of the African Women’s Basketball Championship title. The gesture came after the team secured its fifth consecutive Afrobasket championship.
The players were recognised for their impressive performance and continued dominance of women’s basketball on the continent. Their latest triumph further strengthened Nigeria’s position as the leading force in African women’s basketball, having maintained an unbeaten run in recent editions of the competition.
The victory also extended D’Tigress’ remarkable record in the continental tournament, with the team consistently overcoming strong opposition to retain its status as African champions. Their latest success was celebrated by sports stakeholders and Nigerians who commended the players for representing the country on the international stage.
The government’s cash reward is part of efforts to recognise and motivate athletes who achieve significant results for Nigeria. The players and members of the team’s support structure have continued to receive recognition for their contribution to the country’s sporting success.
The latest achievement is expected to further boost confidence within the D’Tigress camp as the team looks ahead to future international competitions. Their fifth straight Afrobasket title underlines Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball and places further expectations on the team to maintain its winning tradition.
