FG SUMMONS EMERGENCY MEETING OVER AVIATION FUEL HIKE
The Federal Government has called an emergency meeting with domestic airline operators over the sharp increase in aviation fuel prices, while appealing to carriers not to suspend flight operations.
Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, urged airlines to also reconsider any immediate increase in ticket fares.
According to the government, the price of Jet A1 fuel reportedly rose from ₦900 per litre in February to about ₦3,300 per litre, creating serious pressure on airline operations.
Keyamo warned that suspending flights could negatively affect the economy, disrupt movement and logistics, reduce public confidence, and threaten progress in the aviation sector.
He announced that a high-level stakeholders’ meeting has been fixed for April 22, 2026, in Abuja to seek practical and lasting solutions.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria had earlier described the fuel price rise as severe and unsustainable, warning that many airlines may struggle to continue operations if the crisis persists.
