FIFA CANCELS OCTOBER 2026 INTERNATIONAL BREAK, EXTENDS SEPTEMBER WINDOW
Football’s world governing body, FIFA, has announced a new international match calendar for the 2026/27 season, confirming that there will be no October international break.
The decision comes after clubs across Europe and beyond raised concerns about the constant disruption caused by frequent international breaks in the first half of the season.
Under the new arrangement, the first international window will be extended, running from September 21 to October 6, 2026. During this period, national teams will be able to play up to four matches, reducing the need for a separate October break.
The November window will remain unchanged, with international games scheduled between November 9 and 17, 2026.
This adjustment will also impact UEFA competitions. The new Champions League season will now begin earlier than usual, with fixtures kicking off between September 8 and 10, 2026.
The changes are aimed at balancing club and country commitments, while giving players and teams more stability during a packed football calendar.
