FINALLY! 1994 SUPER EAGLES STARS RECEIVE PROMISED HOMES FROM FG
In a heartwarming gesture nearly three decades in the making, the Federal Government has officially fulfilled its long-standing promise of house allocations to the legendary 1994 Super Eagles team — the squad that brought glory to Nigeria by winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tunisia.
The announcement was made in Abuja by Pemi Temitope, Director and Head of Department, Public Building and Housing Development, in a statement released by Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Temitope explained that housing units were allocated to the players in different states across Nigeria, with some receiving theirs in Abuja and others in their respective home states. This symbolic handover was highlighted by the presentation of an allocation letter to Efan Ekoku, one of the team’s star strikers, represented at the event by his niece, Lisa Nwagbogun.
“The government is committed to ensuring the fulfillment of the pledge and rewarding members of the team for their patriotic service that brought honour to the nation,” Temitope stated.
A Promise Kept at Last
For years, Nigerians and football fans alike had questioned whether this iconic team would ever receive the recognition and reward it was promised. That promise dates back to 1994, when the team made history, and was later approved for fulfillment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.
Expressing gratitude, Lisa Nwagbogun, speaking on behalf of Ekoku, said:
“I am deeply grateful to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Housing for fulfilling this long-standing pledge.
This gesture not only honors the service but also restores faith in the value of public promises being kept.”
More Than Just Houses
This move is more than just giving out keys — it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of national honor, gratitude, and keeping promises. For many of these players, the houses symbolize the country’s long-overdue appreciation for their sacrifice and the pride they brought to millions of Nigerians.
As the country continues to celebrate its sporting heroes, this gesture sets a positive tone — showing that Nigeria, indeed, has not forgotten those who flew the flag high and made history.
🏠 Takeaway:
A 30-year wait is finally over. The heroes of ’94 have their keys — and with it, the nation’s long-awaited thank you.
