FINANCE MINISTER PUSHES FOR DIGITAL COMMERCIAL DISPUTE TRIBUNAL
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has advocated for the establishment of a digital commercial dispute tribunal to accelerate the resolution of business-related conflicts and improve Nigeria’s ease of doing business ranking.
Speaking at a high-level economic forum, Edun emphasised that a specialised digital tribunal would reduce delays in commercial litigation, enhance investor confidence, and support economic growth. “Efficient dispute resolution is critical for a thriving business environment. Technology can help us achieve this,” he said.
The proposal includes the use of online hearings, electronic documentation, and artificial intelligence tools to streamline cases involving contracts, debts, and commercial agreements. The minister called on the judiciary and the National Assembly to collaborate on the necessary legal framework.
Legal experts and business leaders have welcomed the idea, noting that traditional courts are often overwhelmed with cases, leading to prolonged delays that discourage investment.
The initiative aligns with broader government efforts to modernise the justice system and create a more business-friendly environment in Nigeria.
